September 26 - Corpus Christi Catholic School Colt Express

It was a Great week at Corpus Christi Catholic Schools! Thanks so much to all who participated in our Annual Jog-A-Thon under the direction of Mrs. Donna Depner and the rest of the HSA team who made this possible! It was a GREAT day to be out in God's Creation!

Here are a few things to share with you:

HARD AS NAILS Comes to CC: MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
We are so blessed to have the opportunity to host "Hard As Nails" for our middle schoolers on Thursday  October 3rd at 1:45 PM. Check out the following link for more info: Hard As Nails. That same evening, Corpus Christi Catholic School is hosting an evening event by "Hard As Nails" for middle schoolers, high schoolers and parents in our Corpus Christi Gym at 7 PM. Spread the word! :)

11TH ANNUAL WORLDWIDE CHILDREN’S EUCHARISTIC HOLY HOUR
Friday, October 4th!

Light a Candle!
One Day, One Hour,

One Million Children Praying

THE THEME FOR THIS YEAR’S HOLY HOUR IS “IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY ~ OUR REFUGE”

Our children are the PRECIOUS GOLD of our Church, families and the world. It is now time to
present our very best to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary!

“The Annual Worldwide Children’s and Youth Eucharistic Holy Hour is a call to the world’s clergy, Catholic educators and parents to gather the children of the world into their parish churches and chapels each year on the First Friday of October, to spiritually unite their prayers as they are guided into the School of the Immaculate Heart of Mary: Eucharistic adoration and reparation, entrustment to Mary and the Holy Rosary.”

EWTN will broadcast the Eucharistic Holy Hour from the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception beginning at 10:00 a.m. EST (8:00 a.m. MST).

Visit http://www.childrenoftheeucharist.org/holy-hour for prayers and devotions as well as the history and photos of previous Eucharistic Holy Hours.

No Student Microwaves in Cafeteria Beginning Monday, September 30th
We presently do not have enough microwaves that meet health department regulation of a "commercial grade" to meet the needs of our student body.

Beginning Monday, September 30th, our present microwaves will be removed and there will be no microwaves available for students to heat lunches. We have chosen not to purchase more microwaves as students, especially our smallest angels, often spend their entire lunch waiting to heat their lunches instead of being able to sit and enjoy their food.

So please note, this will mean that all lunches brought from home should be able to be eaten without heating.  As this may cause more time for preparation, this would be a great way for your students to help out around the house by preparing themselves a nutritious lunch for the day that include lots of fruits and veggies!

Raffle Ticket Sales Have Begun!
On Monday, an envelope with raffle tickets enclosed came home with your YOUNGEST child!  Prizes are $3000 for first place and $2000 and tickets will sell for $10 each!  Each family will be asked to sell all  the tickets that are included in the envelope and PLEASE ask for more if you are needing them!  This is a GREAT way to support our school!

Colorado State Truancy Laws
We unfortunately have numerous students that are coming in tardy each day.  There are many of these students that are "frequent flyers" and are tardy daily.  As a reminder, CLASS begins at 7:40 AM every morning. We no longer gather in the gym for announcements.  Students are expected to be in their seats by this 7:40 AM time.

Students that arrive after 7:40 AM are not only creating a deficit in learning for themselves but are also causing a disruption for their classmates that our school can no longer allow.  Here's a little data related to attendance of students in school from the Colorado Department of Education:

"One criteria of a student's success in school is regular and punctual attendance.  Frequent
absences and tardies may lead to poor academic work, lack of social development, and possible academic failure.  Regular, timely attendance is of utmost importance for school interest, social adjustment, and scholastic achievement.  No single factor may interfere with a student's progress more quickly than frequent tardiness or absence.Continuity in the learning process and social adaptation is seriously disrupted by excessive absences.  In most situations, the work missed cannot be made up adequately.  Students who have good attendance generally achieve higher grades, enjoy school more, and are more employable after leaving school. "

According to state law, for all schools - public, private and parochial,  it is the obligation of every parent/guardian to ensure that every child under their care and supervision receives adequate education and training and, if of compulsory attendance age, attends school.

For at least these reasons, Corpus Christi Catholic School believes that a student must satisfy two basic requirements in order to be prepared to move on to the next grade:  (1) satisfy all academic requirements and (2) exhibit good attendance habits.

As a reminder, students are not to be let out to come in on their own.  We ask that parents sign their child in each day.  If you have questions you can access your child's attendance records in Teacher Ease. Please note, we are presently checking attendance records and will be sending home communication related to habitual attendance issues.
For more information on the affects of habitual tardies and absences, please access:
Truancy Fact Sheet
