Celebrating Faith
May 4, 2014 - Third Sunday of Easter
Let Us Break Bread Together
When has your heart burned within you? Perhaps it was in hearing a scripture passage or a beautiful homily. Perhaps it was a time of conversation with a loved one or friend. Perhaps it was when you were gazing at the night sky, or seeing a newborn baby. What truth was being revealed to you at that time? Faith concerns the heart as well as the mind and grace abounds if we open our hearts and eyes.
This Week On the Way to Mass..Recall the Last Supper and Jesus' words of blessing and breaking the bread before giving it to His disciples. Listen for when you will hear these words today.
This Week On the Way Home from Mass...Notice how the disciples RECOGNIZED Jesus when He broke the bread, The priest during Mass, also blesses and breaks the bread. Discuss all the things you can see that are the same in Scripture as they are in the celebration of Mass.
Living the Word This Week
Maybe invite some friends or family over for dinner to "break bread" together. Why do we do this? What are the feelings you have as you do so? Talk about why it is important to break bread together.
What does it mean "to have life and have it more abundantly?" What life is Jesus talking about? These are GREAT questions for us to meditate on: What gives us life? What is essential for me to be engaged fully in life? If we think of Jesus as the gate, what does the "gate" open for us? The Gospel we read today suggests that we can go in and out of the gate and find pasture, or we might say, abundance.
Next Week On the Way to Mass.. Discuss what some of the words Jesus used to describe who He is? (Examples might include Gate, Good Shepherd, True Vine, the Way.)
Next Week On the Way Home from Mass... Talk about why Jesus had to use various images to explain who He was and IS.
Living the Word Next Week
Today is Mother's Day in the United States! This holiday was first celebrated by peace groups who wish to honor mothers whose sons had died in the Civil War. Make a list of all the various ways in which your mothers contribute to making your life full and meaningful and SHARE it with those still here on Earth with us!

Safe 2 Tell
Sometimes it is hard for students to report to teachers and parents when there is something going on in their lives that they know is not ok and they don't know what to do about-abuse, suicide, etc. Corpus Christi Catholic School is now partnering with a wonderful organization formed here in Colorado Springs called Safe 2 Tell. Safe 2 Tell - http://safe2tell.org/ is an organization designed to allow youth to anonymously report events that they may not be willing or able to report to adults in their lives. These reports are then sent to the school where we can contact local authorities or parents to get students the help they may need. Please access the website above or call 877-542-7233 for more information.

2014-2015 School Year Dates to Put on Your Calendar Now
We wanted to get you some dates to be able to start planning for next year! We are really excited about next year! A few things you will see that may look a little different for the 2014-2015 school year are:
- We are combining our Ice Cream Social and our Back to School Night into ONE NIGHT- our goal is to get information to families BEFORE school starts so our students and families are able to hit the road running for a successful year. Please see the schedule below.
- The second piece we are implementing is assessment (testing) days. This is a very common practice in other schools and allows for students and teachers to get to know each other both personally and educationally! 6th-8th Grade students will have group testing, as noted below, but Preschool-5th Grade students will have a special one-on-one time with their teachers that parents will sign up for between August 4 and August 11. We will also have pay-based extended care available for families if needed on these assessment days.
So here is how our calendar looks for the last week of July and the first few weeks of August:
