We had a SUPER busy week here at Corpus Christi Catholic School last week with Hard As Nails on Thursday night, World Wide Eucharistic Holy Hour on Friday and of course our St. Francis of Assisi Pet Blessing for all our MANY animals that were brought for a blessing! This week is a little more calm but equally as fun! Here are few happening to be aware of and great news to share!
Canonization Date Announced For Blessed Popes John Paul II and John XXIII
Pope Francis on Monday morning, September 30, held the Public Ordinary Consistory for the forthcoming Canonization of Blessed Pope John XXIII and Blessed Pope John Paul II. During the course of the Consistory in the Vatican's Consistory Hall, the Pope decreed that his two predecessors will be raised to Sainthood on April 27, 2014, the day on which the Church celebrates the Second Sunday of Easter and Divine Mercy.
The
Process of Becoming a Saint - Father
William Saunders
“When a person dies who has "fame of sanctity" or
"fame of martyrdom," the Bishop of the Diocese usually initiates the
investigation. One element is whether any special favor or miracle has been granted
through this candidate saint's intercession. The Church will also investigate
the candidate's writings to see if they possess "purity of doctrine,"
essentially, nothing heretical or against the faith. All of this information is
gathered…and is submitted to the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints…If
the candidate was a martyr, the Congregation determines whether he died for the
faith and truly offered his life in a sacrifice of love for Christ and the
Church…Once a candidate is declared to have lived life with heroic virtue, he
may be declared Venerable.
The next step is beatification. A martyr may be beatified and
declared "Blessed" by virtue of martyrdom itself. Otherwise, the
candidate must be credited with a miracle. In verifying the miracle, the Church
looks at whether God truly performed a miracle and whether the miracle was in
response to the intercession of the candidate saint...After beatification,
another miracle is needed for canonization and the formal declaration of
sainthood.
In all, we must not lose sight
that this thorough process exists because of how important the saints are as
examples for us, the faithful who strive to live in the Kingdom of God now and
see its fulfillment in Heaven. Vatican II declared, ‘God shows to men, in a
vivid way, His presence and His face in the lives of those companions of ours
in the human condition who are more perfectly transformed in the image of
Christ. He speaks to us in them and offers us a sign of this kingdom to which
we are powerfully attracted, so great a cloud of witnesses is there given and
such a witness to the truth of the Gospel. It is not merely by the title of
example that we cherish the memory of those in heaven; we seek rather that by
this devotion to the exercise of fraternal charity the union of the whole
Church in the Spirit may be strengthened’ ("Lumen Gentium," No. 50).”

Colorado State Truancy Laws
We unfortunately have numerous students that are coming in tardy each day. There are many of these students that are "frequent flyers" and are tardy daily. As a reminder, CLASS begins at 7:40 AM every morning. We no longer gather in the gym for announcements. Students are expected to be in their seats by this 7:40 AM time.
Students that arrive after 7:40 AM are not only creating a deficit in learning for themselves but are also causing a disruption for their classmates that our school can no longer allow. Here's a little data related to attendance of students in school from the Colorado Department of Education:

Students that arrive after 7:40 AM are not only creating a deficit in learning for themselves but are also causing a disruption for their classmates that our school can no longer allow. Here's a little data related to attendance of students in school from the Colorado Department of Education:
"One criteria of a student's success in school is regular and punctual attendance. Frequent
absences and tardies may lead to poor academic work, lack of social development, and possible academic failure. Regular, timely attendance is of utmost importance for school interest, social adjustment, and scholastic achievement. No single factor may interfere with a student's progress more quickly than frequent tardiness or absence.Continuity in the learning process and social adaptation is seriously disrupted by excessive absences. In most situations, the work missed cannot be made up adequately. Students who have good attendance generally achieve higher grades, enjoy school more, and are more employable after leaving school. "
According to state law, for all schools - public, private and parochial, it is the obligation of every parent/guardian to ensure that every child under their care and supervision receives adequate education and training and, if of compulsory attendance age, attends school.
For at least these reasons, Corpus Christi Catholic School believes that a student must satisfy two basic requirements in order to be prepared to move on to the next grade: (1) satisfy all academic requirements and (2) exhibit good attendance habits.
