Happy Labor Day Weekend! While our students had a long weekend- the teachers and staff of Corpus Christi Catholic School have had the blessing of participating in the 3rd Annual Aquinas Catechetical Institute Thursday and Friday of this week! Priests, our Bishops, and Sisters from across our diocese came together to lead these two days of joining together as diocesan educators. Our goal was to grow in our own faith to better be able to help form the souls of those we have been entrusted to educate! See you all Tuesday after a restful weekend!
Second Annual Clay Shoot - Huge Success!
A huge thank you to our team, under the leadership of Mr. Peter Speiser, who put together our 2nd Annual Corpus Christi Clay Shoot! This year they raised $1200+ to purchase much needed materials for our See the Change Middle Physics program! Thanks again to this team for making this happen!
Speaking of MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE
Remember the Student Services Fees we paid when registering? Those dollars are being put to work! Coming soon to the Middle School Science classroom are 8 new Android tablets (like the I-Pad)! This new technology integration will be wonderful for our middle school students to have immediate access to the internet and the web based information Mrs. Hennessey uses in her classroom! Come check out the 21st learning skills our students are using in our middle school!

Microwave in Cafeteria
As many of you know, CCCS has only one microwave in our cafeteria. We are facing an issue with especially little ones (K,1 and 2) not being able to heat their lunch and eat in a timely way. This obviously creates concern for both parents and teachers as all students have ONLY 20 minutes to eat each day.
Please consider the following when packing lunches:
- Send NON-MICROWAVABLE, HEALTHY foods. This way students can sit down and quickly begin eating and be ready to learn when they return to class!
- Make sure your child can open what is sent on their own. When students have to wait for an adult to help, which they are glad to do, this delays their eating time.
- Consider VOLUNTEERING for K/1/2 lunch duty! We need a few more hands on deck! Can you help out for 40 minutes a few times a week. Please see Nichole Munoz to find out how!
Drop-Off/Pick Up Policies for Kindergarten-8th Grade
Wow! Once again, drop-off and pick up are going really well! As a reminder, please enter the school grounds by heading WEST on Jackson or EAST on Van Buren. PLEASE do not block traffic waiting to turn in from both lanes. This causes a safety issue for the retirement village behind the school as emergency personnel can not get to them in an emergency. We also do not want any of you to be in trouble with the police if we are blocking both lanes. Also, as a reminder, cars are not allowed to be left unattended on the street. Please stay in your cars during pick-up/drop-off OR use the church parking lot to park and come in. Thank you!
Coming Soon - YOGA BALLS in 3rd/4th and Middle School Religion Classrooms
Research and implementation of yoga balls in classrooms is happening in many schools around the country - some coming soon- Yoga Balls instead of the standard classroom chair! We ran a pilot program here at Corpus Christi in Mrs. Gieck's 4th grade class last year! The results were amazing! First of all the kids LOVED it! Second of all - the academic growth in the 4th grade class was AMAZING - of course they did have a FABULOUS teacher!
So this year, our 3rd grade, 4th grade and middle school classrooms are being outfitted with student yoga balls! Students will ALWAYS have access to a chair if parents or they would prefer one! Permissions slips from teachers will be coming home soon and balls will be distributed when these are returned.

How Sitting Balls Help Kids Do Better in School
School Hours - 7:40 AM-2:40 PM
YEA!!! We are doing great with drop-off in the morning! As a reminder, our front doors open and car drop off begins at 7:25 AM. For the safety of your children, please do not drop off children before this time as we have no staff on duty until this time. Drop-off continues until 7:40 AM with students reporting to the gym for teachers to pick up. This year we have all Kindergarten-8th Grade students going to the gym in the morning until 7:40 AM. Announcements then occur at 7:50 over the intercom. We believe this is great way to pray each morning together but also allow students to be in classrooms ready to learn. We will have special morning gathering times during Advent and Lent making these seasons extra special!
Each afternoon at 2::38 PM in the gym, our CC student council will lead our school in prayer to close our day! Parents are welcome to come to the gym each afternoon to pray with our students and pick up your children! Dismissal will begin at promptly 2:40.
Aftercare Procedures
Our pick-up procedures in the afternoon mirror our drop-off procedures in the afternoon. Pick-up begins at 2:40 PM and ends at 3:00 PM. As we understand that life can be unpredictable, kids who are not picked up by 3:00 PM will be checked into our CC After-School Care. So beginning at 3:01 PM, parents should report to the lower west blue door, under the external stairs and ring the bell for entry into the building and go to the cafeteria to pick up your students. We make sure to easy worry with kiddos and let them know someone is on the way to pick them up and we simply want them to be in a safe environment.
Families can choose between regular participation in aftercare or can participate on a drop-in basis. The drop-in fees are $10 for the first 30 minutes of aftercare and $20 for the day. Aftercare closes at 5:30 PM. If a child is not picked up by this time, a fee of $1 per minute will be charged the first time this occurs. If it occurs again, $2 per minute will be charged and so on. This fee is due at the time of pick-up.
This policy went into affect on Monday, August 19th. If you are interested in having your child attend aftercare on a regular basis, please contact Al Chromy at achromy@corpuschristicos.org for more information.
